ARC09 Route

The Air Race Classic, a transcontinental race for women pilots, traces its roots to the Women's Air Derby first held in 1929.  While Amelia Airheart flew in that first Air Derby, it was won by Arkansas' own Louise Thaden.  A new iteration of the Air Derby, formed after World War II, was dubbed the Powder Puff Derby using a reference to the original Air Derby made by humorist and aviation enthusiast Will Rogers.  This iteration continued into the 1970s when it was replaced by the Air Race Classic.

This year’s race will cover almost 2,200 nautical miles, beginning in Fort Myers, Florida and ending in Frederick, MD, with several stops and activities in between.   Join us as we prepare for and fly this year's Air Race Classic.
